My home town of Lancaster, Pennsylvania  was founded 1734 as a township by James Hamilton
.That's over 40 years before the signing of The Declaration of Independence . Originally the area was settled by German speaking immigrants s from Central Europe circa 1709 and it was known as "Old Hickorytown".
Lancaster is the oldest inland city in The United States, and Much of the federalist and colonial Architecture still remains.
On February 27, 1777 Lancaster was the Capital of The United States for one day, while the Continental Congress fled British troops.
Lancaster has been home to such Famous figures as
  • James Buchanan - 15th President of the U.S.
  • Thaddeus Stevens - controversial Congressman, Abolitionist, Reconstructionist, and "Carpet Bagger".
  • Charles Demuth - Artist.
  • Edward Hand - Adjutant General during the American Revolution.
  • Robert Fulton - Engineer who design a popular version of the Steamboat and design one of the first practical submarines.
  • Franklin Woolworth -  business owner who opened the first  "Five and Dime" store.

Lancaster manufacturing has included the  "The Pennsylvania Long Rifle", "Conestoga Wagon", Arguably the worlds first battery powered watches. Today it home to one the countries oldest Farmers Markets : Lancaster Central  Market.

Today ,Lancaster, nicknamed the Red Rose City, is home to about 60,000 people. Lancaster County over half a million residents.
